Today many people spend less and less time in their homes. What are the reasons and what are the effects of this trend on individuals and society?

Currently, there are soaring number of people spend less time with family members compared to the past and there are numerous reasons for this social phenomenon.

From my point of view, study and work may be main reasons that keep people away from their homes. The increasing students have to attend extra lessons after school to prepare for exams, which costs much their own spare time. Meanwhile, adults usually need to work for a long time. In order to finish their tasks in time, they have no choice but work overtime, which makes them impossible to spend time in their families. Besides, people often live far away from their workplaces, so they need to spend for over one hour commuting on subways or buses, which results in declining home time for employees.

Such trend may have negative effects on people as well as the whole society. Employees do not have enough time for them to stay with their family members because of the heavy work load, which is harmful to the establishment of family bonds. Children may lack their busy parents’ company and guide in the process of their growth, which would contribute to some behavior problems like anxiousness and peer stress. Furthermore, adverse outcomes would also appear in the society. Since people stay outside for a long time, which may put heavy burdens on the public such as traffic jams, safety issues and so on.

In conclusion, although people can broaden their horizons through going out their homes, they are often busy with work or study burdens. Such situation would cause the reduction of people’s happiness level, and contributes negative effects on people and society.
