In recent decades, people all over the world have gradually increased awareness on environment protection, especially saving wild animals in danger. However, since it takes large amount of money to protect wild animals, some people doubt whether the money is well spent or should be invested in human population. In my mind, though costly, it is high time that we take measures to protect wild animals.
Of course, apart from animal extinction, we today confront many serious problems that should be addressed quickly, especially those closely associated to health and education. Owing to imbalanced regional development and widening gap between the rich and the poor, there is still a large population living in poverty stricken areas or war torn areas. They are denied access to education, medical resources, shelters, which are believed basic needs for survival. Therefore, it is an urgent issue to help them get rid of poverty and lead a stable life.
Though issues concerning human health and education deserve financial supports, it is not an excuse to cut off expenditures on wild animal protection. Actually, in the long run, to save wild animals means to conserve balance of ecosystem which is also essential to human survival. For centuries, human activities have led to severe environment deterioration both directly and indirectly, like deforestation, pollution, industrialization, etc. Consequently, the loss of habitats and food sources then cause decline of many animal species. As we all know, the extinction of one species will trigger off vicious cycle which in the end threats human survival. Thus, it is vital to take actions to reverse the trend before too late, like restoring habitats and building conservation parks.
In summary, although there are many problems directly associated with people’s health and education, to protect wild animals is also an urgent issue with consideration to long term survival of human species.
