One of the main reasons some think increased wealth equates to increased happiness is that higher rates of monetary gain

can bring about a greater range of choices. While this might be true at an individual level, it does not always stand at

the macro level, as some of the wealthiest nations seem also to have some of the highest rates of conditions

normally associated with unhappiness. These ‘conditions’ include depression, suicide, obesity, narcissism

, and an increase in a general malaise of the people, and are evident in great numbers in wealthy countries such as the United States, Japan, and Canada, countries where the GDP has remained high for

decades. Despite this upward trend of despondency within many in the population in such countries, there is no doubt that a rise in a person’s financial

affluence can have a positive impact on their life. Increased wealth brings about a greater plethora of

not just choices, but also conveniences, affecting aspects such as living environment, consumer choices

, and sources of pleasure. Nevertheless, evidence seems to support the notion that despite increased national wealth, even when this economic

uptick reaches the populace directly, many people still slip into a malaise brought on by the lack of

purpose and materialism on the one hand, and an overabundance of convenience on the other. In conclusion, I believe that although many people are able to use an increase in

personal financial wealth to increase their life contentment, the same cannot be said, generally, for the population of a rich country with increasing prosperity, since many citizens will remain

void of a central guiding philosophy, for which is exacerbated by the array of choices and conveniences open to them, and hence, become

victims of dissatisfaction.  - Essay Analysis 箴解析 -- (1) Introduction Paraphrasing from the Statement/Question 试题改述:
