Olympic Flame Lit on World's Highest Peak

The Olympic torch has been lit on top of the world.

A 30-meter relay on the world's highest peak, Mt. Qomolangma, was completed on Thursday morning.

Tibetan female climber Gyigyi was the first bearer and captain of the mountaineering team Wang Yongfeng was the second.

The third bearer was Tibetan Nyima Cering, captain of the assault team.

"One World, One Dream..."

A dozen climbers celebrated on the 8,844-meter summit. They clustered together, cheering "We made it" and "Beijing welcomes you".

The last of the five torchbearers, Cering Wangmo, held up the sacred flame at the world's highest summit.

Mountain climbers were holding the Chinese national flag, the Beijing Olympic flag and the five-ring Olympic flag.

Televised live, it's the first time for the Olympic torch relay to be held at such high elevation.

Beijing has fulfilled its promise, which was made in its bidding reports seven years ago, to carry the sacred Olympic flame atop the snow-covered peak.

Beijing organizers postponed the main torch relay, which is re-scheduled to start in the southern city of Shenzhen Thursday noon.

The Qomolangma flame will be reunited with the main flame later in the relay.

分析：

（1）       lit 作为light的过去分词，不要忘了light作为“点燃”的动词词性。

（2）       Mt. Qomolangma 珠穆朗玛峰。备考雅思的话不妨留意一下常见的人名、地名等专有名词，像“珠穆朗玛峰”就不能用拼音拼写，类似的还有Tibet（西藏）。

（3）       summit 顶点。可以在雅思写作中替换“peak”，还有一个常见用法是 “峰会”。

（4）       elevation 海拔。还有一种表达是altitude。

（5）       fulfill the promise 实现诺言。动宾搭配的正确性很重要，所以也要慢慢积累。

（6）       reunited 重逢。了解构词法可以使记忆单词实现事半功倍，re-这个前缀就有“再一次”的含义。
